Fashion Show
Fashion Show to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday Nov 25-26 in Celbridge Manor Hotel, with a practice on Saturday November 22, 10am-4pm in the school hall. It was a wonderful night for all involved, thank you to everyone who made it a tremendous success.

Open Morning on November 8th. 150 First year places are available. Closing date for applications is November 28th.
Homework Club
All help greatly appreciated, Ms Barry would appreciate help with the homework club and computer room. The computer room could be opened up, if we had more help with the homework club.

Donation to CAD
There was very positive feedback on the 6 weeks class run by Community Awareness of Drugs (CAD). The Parents Association agreed to donate €400 to CAD. For more information on CAD and the work they do, check out their web site www.cadaboutdrugs.ie.
Election
Lindsay Mahon (Chairperson) and Annette O’Dea (Secretary) are stepping down after 3 years in role, per our constitution. The new Board were elected as follows:

St. Wolstan's School Ethos
This month, the Parents' Association would like to share St. Wolstan's School Ethos:
St. Wolstan's Community School: School Ethos
The Ethos of St. Wolstan's refers to the fundamental principle and purpose of the school, its character, climate and spirit where values are transmitted and moral habits are nurtured. It is rooted in the Holy Faith tradition of education where every child is valued equally and a unique person and all made feel welcome irrespective of race, colour, religious affiliation, ability or intelligence. This ethos enshrines the values of truth, goodness, faith, respect, service, wonder, diversity, equality and compassion. It strives to create an environment in which every member of this community has a deep respect for themselves and others and treasures the gift of life. It places before each person the Invitation to be responsible, to participate, to share gifts, talents and cultures so that all feel they belong to and take ownership of this school with pride. A safe, secure, clean and beautiful environment is provided reflecting the dignity in which all are held.
We aim to provide the students with the best education to equip them for life and through the wide variety of subjects offered and taught by dedicated teachers, all are helped to strive to reach their potential. Reflecting the strong Christian tradition upon which this school is established, and welcoming the diversity of religious beliefs in our midst, St. Wolstan's recognises that when a person is fully grounded in her/his own faith tradition she/he can live in greater unity with those who are different.
The value of holistic development and education are also nurtured through the many extra-curricular activities and the encouragement of all to-engage in the arts, thus giving expression to the creativity within the individual.
Recognising that St. Wolstan's is only one of the partners in the development of the students, strong communication is encouraged between the parents/guardians and the opportunity to actively participate in the life of the school.
As a small community within the greater global family, all are encouraged to care for our planet and following the school's tradition, the value of charity arid justice are nurtured as an aspect of religious and moral development.
The dignity and respect afforded to each person is evident in the efficiency and care of all, and the beautiful learning environment created and maintained by all members of the school community.
The ethos which is reflected in our induction and enrolment policies and nurtured by the Trustees, Board of Management, school leadership, teachers, ancillary staff, parents, students, the wider community and school practices underpins the mission statement and all other policies in St. Wolstan's. It is found in the lived experience of all members of the school. This experience is one of happiness, caring, support and personal achievement which enables all to become well developed as they leave this community to enter into adult life.

BOOKSPLITS – THE SIMPLE & INSTANT SOLUTION TO HEAVY SCHOOLBAGS
As we are
all aware, the weight of heavy schoolbags is a serious health issue for young people
today. Not only does it deter many students from walking/cycling to school but
it may also be a major contributing factor to the increase of back-related
complaints in schoolchildren, as seen by the Chiropractors Association of
Ireland in recent years.
BOOKSPLITS have developed a very simple solution to this problem which can
instantly reduce the weight carried by students – split each book in half and
use the specially designed BOOKSPLITS
covers to protect, rebind and cover each half of the book separately. Using BOOKSPLITS does not damage the book, it
just enables it to be carried in two separate halves: thus students need only
carry that half of the book they require that day. The BOOKSPLITS pack also includes a rebinding strip which can be used
to recombine the two halves back into a single book, if required.

May Committee Meeting Report
The last
Committee meeting of the 2013/2014 school year saw the finalising of
arrangements for the forthcoming election of Parent Representatives to the
Board of Management, and for the collection of unwanted school uniforms to be donated to St. Vincent's charity shop for sale on 28th June.
Ms. Barry’s
report highlighted
- Notification to school community of Bernard Owens, Leixlip as preferred supplier of school uniform
- Health Promoting School survey of students, teachers and parents undertaken
- Success of “Mock Interview” evenings for 5th year students, and school’s appreciation of the parental involvement in this

WELCOME BACK!
Hello
everyone, and welcome back to St. Wolstan's for the 2014-2015 school year. The
Parents’ Association would like to congratulate all students who sat the State
exams before the summer holidays, not only for the results achieved, but also for
the tremendous effort each of you put in. We would also like to say a special
“hello” to this year’s new students and their families: we hope you’re settling
in well.
There are
just a couple of notes to bring to your attention:
- The Parent's Association would like to thank everyone who donated surplus items of school uniform for the Uniform Sales, held in Vincent's Charity Shop during the summer. Yet again, this was an extremely successful venture due to the support of our school community.
- There are a couple of places left on the upcoming CAD Drug Awareness course, beginning on the 17th Sept. If you are interested, please contact Lindsay Mahon (Chair, Parents Association) on 087 9435900 asap.
- The Parents' Association AGM will be held in the school on TUESDAY 21st OCTOBER at 7.30pm. Please come along and get involved.
